Snow Angels Among Us

I confess that I have always believed in angels, quite literally. I’ve experienced angelic intervention several times in my life. But I also know that there are angels among us who are only too human. And my daughter is one. She’s what in St. Paul are called Snow Angels. This is a small group of volunteers who, after a snow event, freely shovel the sidewalks of those who, for whatever reason, cannot. My daughter and the work of the Snow Angels were featured last night on our local news channel. I’m posting this not only because I’m proud of the person she is and the work she does, but also because the Snow Angels could use more volunteers.

If you live in the Twin Cities, consider lending a hand in this unselfish effort to serve those in our community who need assistance. It will do your soul good.

  1. The gift these angels give is not simply a cleared sidewalk. They give the gifts of access, mobility, fellowship, possibility, hope, and the easing of anxiety. They give the gifts of belonging and community–gifts made all the more precious in dark times, when humankind struggles to right itself by nurturing the good wolf dwelling within. And they give the gift of enlightenment, as they teach us just how much we need each other.

Here they thought they were just shoveling snow!
